Music Corner Week 9: Cider Girl

Cider Girl is a three-member pop-rock band that formed back in 2014. Keeping to the creed of becoming that exhilarating rush of carbonated bubbles that just overwhelm the senses and are lost in a short period of time an experience that is usually found in cider drink. Just as akin to drinking said drink Cider Girl’s songs are high energy and give out that exhilarating edge, but are short and to the point. Coined as their “Carbonated” sound Cider Girls high tempo leads them to an edge in the already crowded market that is the Japanese pop-rock genre.

A perfect example of this “Carbonated” sound is their songs “Satellite” and “Melancholy” in which Yurin vocal paired with lead guitarist Chi’s amazing guitar skill come mixed with Bassist Fujirum’s tempo crescendos to a point that takes their listeners on a ride in which their melody is just like tiny carbonated bubbles that have just be popped in such a high energy and intoxicating way repeating over and over it give that refreshing feeling to the listeners ears. This feeling lingers on till just as the song is about to end giving that urgency to go ahead and take another “sip” of their songs.

Rina Onuki

As the members of the band like to keep their public image to themselves, Cider Girl employs models to perform in their music videos in the lime lite as opposed to the band themselves. Dubbed the “Cider Girls” they are just as important to the band as an honorary fourth member to the actual members that perform the songs. Currently, the 2019 Cider Girl is Rina Onuki which you can see here.

Currently, Cider Girl has release four mini-albums “Cider no Shikumi” (2015) “Cider no Machi Made” (2016) “Diorama InCider” (2016) “Diorama OutCider” (2016) which were released during their indie day before being signed with Universal in 2017. With Universal, they have released two albums SODA POP FANCLUB 1 and 2 in 2017 and 2018 respectively along with three singles with a fourth, “Clover” being released on July 3 which you can pre-order  here.

Three-member high energy rock band and Indie Corner alum flue announced via Twitter that they will be dropping a brand new mini-album titled 不覚にもフルー (Fukaku ni mo flue) June 9. This will be the latest release by the group since their album  リテラシー良い暮らし (Literacy Yoi Kurashi) back last October. Fukaku ni mo flue will drop with seven tracks and, in usual hyperactive flue fashion, will have a runtime of ten minutes.

Fukaku ni mo flue isn’t the only major news announced by the band; flue will also release their first two albums No. 13 and Literacy Yoi Kurashi to music streaming platforms. Also, to commemorate the release of the mini-album, flue will hold a release party in the famed Shimokitazawa mona records in Tokyo June 9.

Unfortunately there are no pre-order links as of now, but if this is anything like the releases of flue’s previous albums it should also be available on all music streaming platforms. In the meantime check out the track listing for Fukaku ni mo flue below!

Man arrested for sending Yuka Ogina death threats

The police took a 24-year-old man into custody after he sent death threats to Yuka Ogina. Ogina is a member of the late NGT48, which dissolved back in April. Apparently the man in custody faxed in death threats to various news outlets and to Niigata government offices. HoriPro, the agency that represents Ogino, took action against the man arrested and filed a lawsuit but they are also seeking strict punishment against him.

This came after all of the recent controversy that surrounded NGT48. Last December, fellow member Maho Yamaguchi was assaulted right outside of her dorm room by two men. This incident caused so much blowback due to how it was mishandled that it ultimately led to Nigata pulling their support of the group—it was announced last month that NGT48 would be dissolved.
