Koda Kumi brings her DNA live tour to Blu-ray & DVD!!

Vocalist Koda Kumi will be bringing her DNA Live Tour from this past November 13 at Kanagawa Ken Hall to Blu-ray and DVD March 20! There will be three editions per Koda Kumi’s website: a standard Blu-ray edition, a standard DVD edition, and a 4-DVD Fan Club edition which includes a photobook. The 4-DVD Fan Club edition will only be available through Koda Kumi’s Fan Club site. Along with the Blu-ray & DVD, there is a 2-CD live edition available exclusively to her Fan Club. SHISHAMO to kick off anniversary with a bang!

​Ahead of the release of their upcoming single “OH!”, three-member pop rock girl band SHISHAMO announced today that they will be releasing their first Best Of album. Simply titled SHISHAMO BEST and set for release June 19, the album will be used to kick off the group’s fifth year anniversary in the music industry and all of their A-side singles from “君と夏フェス” (“Kimi to Natsu Fes”) to their latest upcoming single “OH!” will be included on the album, totaling out the track list to thirteen songs.

SHISHAMO BEST will be released with two editions: a standard CD-only edition and a limited edition which will not only include the CD but a bonus fourteenth track, a small photo book, and a long towel which was designed by lead guitarist and vocalist Asako Miyazaki herself. You can see a preview of the design to the right.

Finally, SHISHAMO announced a pair of anniversary shows, one taking place in the famed Osaka Castle Hall September 22 and one September 28 in the popular Saitama Super Arena cleverly titled SHISHAMO NO BEST ARENA!!! WEST and EAST respectively.

Kalafina is no more

Space Craft Produce announced March 13 that Kalafina will officially disband. The announcement came via a blog post on Space Craft Produce’s website. Although, it was announced last year that the founder and primary writer of the group, Yuki Kajiura, would be leaving.

Space Craft Produce is the talent agency that manages Kalafina and each of the members.

Kalafina is a three-member female idol group founded in 2007. When it was announced that Kajiura would be leaving, at the time there were still plans for the group to continue. However, in April of last year it was revealed that Keiko Kubota would also be leaving. Later in October it was additionally revealed that Hikaru Masai would depart as well. With 2018 being such a troubling time for Kalafina, the decision was made to simply render the group a thing of the past.

Kalafina was around for ten years and will be missed. We here at Ongaku To You wish everyone affiliated with them the best.

FANTASTICS from EXILE TRIBE fly in new music video

On  March 12, the FANTASTICS from EXILE TRIBE released the second music video for their upcoming single titled “Flying Fish”. “Flying Fish” is due out April 3.

The single is being released in two editions. The standard edition will be CD-only but the second edition will come with a DVD which will include the music video for “Flying Fish”.

No general election for AKB48 this year

Mega idol group AKB48 announced on their blog March 13 that there will be no general election—commonly referred to as Senbatsu— this year. The election is held to determine which member will serve as the center for an upcoming single. In the blog post there is no mention as to why there won’t be an election this year, unfortunately.

Last year Jurina Matsui was the winner of the Senbatsu (which was also the tenth election). Matsui was to serve as the center for last year's “Sentimental Train” single; however, a week after she won she went on medical leave and instead of holding the release of the single, production moved forward without her. The music video was made with Matsui absent but was later edited with her inclusion after she returned.

The latest single “Jiwaru Days” is Rino Sashihara’s graduation song. Rino Sashihara is a three-time election winner.
