Gray's Ongaku Go For August 2022

With another month down for 2022 these are some of my favorite tracks from the last month. Every song can be found on Apple Music.

“Baumkuchen” by Amatou Danshi

This song has been a delight since it dropped and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. I love the harmonization done by Amatou Danshi done in this song. The catchy tune and melody of this track are just a delight.

Check out “Baumkuchen” here.

“Beyond VANITAS” by Pipping Hot

This track has a fun energy about it that is a lot of fun. The girls of Pipping Hot just kill this track and I’ve had it on repeat ever since it dropped.

“SEE YOU” by BiSH

Once again as the clock winds down on this group they dropped an amazing track. As the saying goes “All good things must come to an end.” So BiSH has really decided to end on an amazing high note.

Check out “SEE YOU” here and the music video below!

“Chikaranokagiri” by GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE

GENERATIONS has really kept up the momentum since their album Up&Down. This was a really fun release.

Check out “Chikaranokagiri” here and the music video below!

“Way You Are” by Kouhei Matsushita

When this track charted earlier this month, I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with it as much as I have. What a head-turner of a song and I’ve been listening to this on repeat ever since.

Luna's Ongaku Go For August 2022!

Picking up where Ken left off, with the summer in its final month and fall getting ready to begin. We at OTY would like our readers to know what was filling our ears for the past month. Each track is available across all digital music streaming platforms, with Apple Music featured on this site.

“Summer Time” feat. KENYA by KAHOH

With the anticipation of KAHOH’s Ice Cream EP, I added “Summer Time” feat KENYA to my summer playlist and its been my jam. This is the perfect summer song, nice R&B melody you can nodd your head too. KAHOH and KENYA have such great chemistry vocal wise, both of them having a smooth sytle that meshes flawlessly together. “Summer Time” has such a fluid flow to it that once its over, you want to listen to it again. On KAHOH’s Ice Cream EP, that just released, an Acoustic version is included and it is not to be missed, although, I love the original version a bit more due to its R&B feel.

Check out “Summer Time” feat. KENYA here and the music video below!

“Suki” by eill

Whenever I see eill release a new track I always get excited and “Suki” is one that you will fall in love with. It has a nice composition that brings out eill’s voice and encompassing the feelings that she is bringing across. “Suki” is the perfect summer love song with its light airy feel, cute and sentimental lyrics, and a catchy chorus. When listening to “Suki”, I feel a nice warm feeling that makes me just want to go for a walk or relax with the person I love.

“Summer Breeze” feat. Alina Saito & Hideshi Takatani) by uruwashi

Ken had picked uruwashi as his Music Corner alumni some time back and I was drawn to the unique style of uruwashi as a track maker and boy does he excell in that field. “Summer Breeze” is breathe of fresh air that you need in the summer with its relaxing composition and Alina Saito’s vocals are a pleasure on the ears. I love his choice of instruments as it starts of with a trumpet and brings in the guitar and piano, making for a nice touch. I could listen to this track all day relaxing in a hammock. How uruwashi created this track is amazing, with its flow and unique blend of sounds.

“White Rain (Shiroi Rain)” by Little Black Dress

In July, we released our Music Corner Round Up and that got me to go back and listen to some great artists. Little Black Dress is one of those. “White Rain” is absolutely fabulous with its uplifiting rhythm that gives you a theatric feel. Little Black Dress’s vocals are powerful and smooth which blends perfectly with the melody of this song. I love how “White Rain” starts off a little slower, then picks up for the chorus. The flow “White Rain” has with how it takes you on a journey, keeps your ears mesmirized the whole time.

Check out “White Rain” here and the music video below!

“Sure Shot” by Koda Kumi

With the impending release of Koda Kumi’s newest live tour, I went back to her heart album that released in March of this year. “Sure shot” is a perfect song to listen to this time of year. It’s a higher energy track that gets you pumped up and of course has Koda Kumi’s flare in it. “Sure shot” has a catchy beat that gets you up and moving, whether it be dancing or working out. It has Koda Kumi’s usual vocals for the type of track it is and with its poppy beat, her vocals fit perfectly. “Sure Shot” is a nice way to round out the summer playlist and keep you energized.

Ken's Ongaku Go For August 2022!

With the summer fill days of 2022 behind us and the cool fall winds upon us that means a brand new Ongaku Go is also with us. We at OTY would like our readers to know what was filling our ears for the past month. Each track is available across all digital music streaming platforms with Apple Music featured on this site.

“Kimi To Dokomademo” by Shin Aoyama

I'm sad that I didn’t find out about Aoyama sooner as I had absolutely loved his style and cadence and is a worthy successor to the young Enka name. While I'm somewhat new to the male Enka artist pool as Midori Oka had originally turned me on to the genre beforehand, Aoyama has this grip that really left an impression on me that no older male artist had before. The way he holds notes entices me to listen to more of his work. Although he has no traditional albums yet in his young career, I can't wait to see what the future has in store for him.

Be sure to check out the lyric video below along with the track here!

“Low Pressure” by Natsu Summer and ryosenkei

I had missed my time with Natsu Summer, especially throughout this year of releases, but I soon rectified that with the SUN KISSED LADY collaboration album done by her and the band ryusenkei. While this is the first time I had listened to work done by the band, they really had brought out the full range of Summer and really made me fall in love with her all over again. Low Pressure Boy was one of the tracks that really had stood out to me the most out of the whole album as it has this child like delight of its outlook of summer beats and just took me on a ride that i can never forget. The keyboard on this piece in particular is absolutely fantastic and should be noted upon. While this is a collaborative effort on both parties, Low Pressure Boy made me love Natsu Summer even more and turned me into a fan of ryusenkei as well.

Check out the extended trailer for SUN KISSED LADY below along with track here!

“HAVE A NICE DAY” by TENDRE

While 2022 has been a slow year for one of my favorite artist, TENDRE's latest release of “HAVE A NICE DAY” had really reconfirmed why I ended up becoming a fan of him in the first place. Out of this world composition with honestly the best use of sax done by him since “LIFE” back in 2020. The way that TENDRE is able to implement his vocals in this piece is also something of note as it just blends at all the right moments and gives the listeners the ability to just drift away in his work. Overall, if we don't get too much released by TENDRE for the rest of 2022, I'll be happy to just plug “HAVE A NICE DAY” into my Top 5 for the year easily.

Be sure to check out the music video for “HAVE A NICE DAY” below, along with the song here!

“Shower” by chilldspot

Speaking of tracks that listeners are able to get lost too, chilldspot is just one of those rare bands that I just keep finding that scratches that itch for me. Vocalist Hiyune is an absolute amazing vocalist and I honestly can't wait to see what this band has in store for the future. The composition is one that I'll never forget and I just had to put into my rotations because of it. The 80's style of guitar pedal that they were using was fantastic and would love to hear this in a lot more tracks.

Check out the music video for “Shower” below, along with the track here!

“Whiskey” by AVOCADO BOYS

This band is something of an enigma to me as they really bring that old style funk with a Japanese flair. A majority of their songs are done in English, and has that uniqueness of just being like a large swing/funk band. While purist might think they are not doing anything new per-say, the building blocks to other artists in that similar genre is there, and that’s one of thing that I absolutely love that you can be able from them to branch into new and amazing things that some listeners might not be able to before. “Whiskey” really brings that zest that you hear in songs similar in the genre and makes it more appealing to the broader audience which is a good thing overall. While I do hope to do a full blown Music Corner about them soon enough, this little taste is all I need to be high on them.

Uprising Japanese boy band BE:FIRST, Announces the Release of Debut Album, ‘BE:1’, Less Than 1 Year Since Group’s Debut Introducing to the World, Who BE:FIRST Are

Debuting in November 2021, BE:FIRST is made up of seven dance and vocal members which includes SOTA, SHUNTO, MANATO, RYUHEI, JUNON, RYOKI, and LEO, who are signed to renowned Japanese rapper and artist, SKY-HI’s management company and label, BMSG. Under the name BE:FIRST, this seven-member group has swept the No.1 spots on various charts in Japan, such as their debut single, ‘Gifted.’ and second single, ‘Bye-Good-Bye’ which hit number one on the Billboard JAPAN HOT 100. The latter single’s music video received over 26 million views on YouTube. BE:FIRST has announced the release of their first album, which will be made available on all major digital streaming platforms on 29 August 2022, Monday. The physical album ‘BE:1’ is available for purchase from today, via BMSG’s Music Shop.

BE:FIRST are the ‘BE:1’; with each of the seven members making up what their management, BMSG stands for – Brave, Massive, Survive, and Groove, and respectfully making it a point to clad every single listener as 'one', through their love and encouragement to each individual. On the formation of BE:FIRST, BMSG management’s founder SKY-HI shares, “When we were working to form BE:FIRST, my thoughts were that as a group, every member is expected to endlessly give their all, and to have pride and love for being number one while being uniquely special. Importantly, I want the group to respect others who are equally qualified as number one in what they do. With this in mind, on the last night of their audition and on the dawn of them taking their first great steps out into Japan, then Asia, then the world, I named this seven-member group BE:FIRST.

The album opens with the hip-hop-tuned boasting track, ‘BF is...’, which BE:FIRST performed at VIVA LA ROCK 2022 and ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL. ‘Be Free’, a re-recorded pop dance track, was showcased in the group’s audition program, ‘THE FIRST’, where BE:FIRST was born.

‘Softly’ is an R&B track in which HIRO (Mhiro from F.OH.) produced the topline and showcases MANATO, RYUHEI, JUNON, and LEO vocal abilities. ‘Milli-Billi’ reveals cutting edge dance music with cynical and boasting lyrics, and hard hip-hop track ‘Spin!’ features SOTA, SHUNTO, and RYOKI splitting rap verses. ‘Grateful Pain’ portrays the pain that each member of BE:FIRST has experienced in reaching the point that they are at now, and how they managed to turn those hardships into a positive and hopeful future.

Other previously released tracks include their debut and topping singles, ‘Gifted’, ‘Bye-Good-Bye’, the spellbound single, ‘Betrayal Game’, of which the music video of its flashy, yet appealing dance performances generated viral excitement among their fans. The album’s focus track, ‘Scream’, has had over 7 million Youtube views, and topped Billboard JAPAN HOT 100 chart in less than 2 weeks since its release on 25 July 2022.

BE:FIRST members, SOTA, MANATO and RYOKI share their comments on their debut album, ‘BE:1’:

SOTA: 'BE:1' showcases our steps thus far and what's coming next for BE:FIRST and for us individuals. For me personally (as someone who once had a career as a professional dancer), it was just like a dream that I was able to create music that excited me enough to want to dance!’

RYOKI:The lead single, 'Scream', is such a cool song that all of us (BE:FIRST) got super excited. The message in the lyrics and the up-and-down of the music line would grab listeners' hearts. All the other tracks in the album are a variety of genres, so I want people to check out all the songs in BE:1.

MANATO: ‘I am thrilled that we were able to release our first album less than one year after debuting as BE:FIRST, especially during this difficult time. Each track is of a different genre, and each song could qualify as a lead single! On top of being able to participate in the journey of creating music, getting direction from artists whom I used to listen to and collaborating with uprising creators are unforgettable experiences for me. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy this album as much as we have putting it together.’

SKY-HI adds on, “With their debut album release, all seven voices take turns to perform under a spotlight on each track. This album, ‘BE:1’ will walk along with the listeners for a better tomorrow while shifting their emotions right-to-left and up-and-down with a mixture of hip-hop, R&B, rock, and pop tunes. I see this album as a classic art piece that people can pass on to generations as it is infinitely powerful, empathetic, bittersweet, yet filled with joy.

BE:FIRST recently performed ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ as a guest artist with British DJ, record producer, and songwriter, Jonas Blue in Fuji Rock Festival ’22 on 29 July 2022. This performance marks a significant milestone for BE:FIRST – the first boy band to perform at all three major rock festivals in Japan (i.e., Summer Sonic, Rock In Japan Festival, and Fuji Rock Festival) within less than one year of their debut. Upcoming, and in line with the release of their album, ‘BE:1’, BE:FIRST will be performing at BMSG FES on 17 and 18 September 2022, together with BMSG artists, including SKY-HI, Novel Core, Aile The Shota, edhiii boi, and all the other trainees. BE:FIRST will also be embarking on their first Japan tour from 23 September 2022. More details on BE:FIRST activities will be shared in the upcoming weeks.

Sony Music Entertainment Japan Introduces the World to Bangkok-based Japan x Thailand HipHop Group, Baby Mic Candy

Sony Music Entertainment Japan has announced the debut single release of Japanese and Thai Hip Hop trio, Baby Mic Candy (BMC). The single, ‘RUN’, will be made available on all digital streaming platforms, with the accompanying music video on the same day.

Baby Mic Candy (BMC) is a 3-member Hip Hop group consisting of MOTO from Thailand, and GOLI and YUKI from Japan. The name ‘Baby Mic Candy’ toys with the idea of how the trio wants to share their identity with the whole world, charming listeners as vividly as Candy through the Microphone without forgetting their Baby-like innocence.

Formally members of a 10-member idol group in Fukuoka, Japan, the group disbanded in 2019.

As the three remaining members, MOTO, GOLI and YUKI regrouped to form BMC during the pandemic, working together remotely in Thailand and Japan respectively. Two and a half years of enduring hardships of creating songs remotely and with the Japanese members of BMC studying Thai language, all 3 members have finally reunited in Thailand since May this year. Currently based in Bangkok, BMC will be writing songs together with some of Thailand’s biggest music producers and artists, working on various projects, while working towards the same shared goal of becoming a hit in Thailand.

The debut Hip Hop, breakbeat single, ‘RUN’ is an adrenaline-pumping, runner’s high song that sublimates good vibes, a spirit of defiance and resolutions overflowing from the group. With lyrics in Thai, Japanese and English, the high-tempo best of the single depicts the “ordinary guys” that BMC values so much as they bet (run) on the once-in-a-lifetime game of life.

BMC’s leader GOLI says, "Listening to our debut single ‘RUN’, I hope you can feel the possibilities and expectations of the word "anyone" in a positive way, as well as the passion of BMC and the hotness of Thailand. It is a song that makes you feel close to us, with the thought of stepping forward together.” This song is the start of the BMC project, in which the members, representing Generation Z, will present the significance of their existence as artists in the country.”

Prior to their debut, BMC's official YouTube channel has already launched. Produced by Goffoo (@goffoo), the leader of a Thailand’s legendary YouTuber group FEDFE, the channel will feature a variety of content focusing on the BMC members' lives in Thailand.

In partnership with Thailand’s entertainment conglomerate, GMMTV, BMC’s music and reality show ‘B.M.C. Way’ is set to premiere later this month on GMMTV’s YouTube Channel. Join the members of BMC as they travel across Thailand to learn about the local culture, finding inspiration for their music creation.
