Ken's Ongaku Go for November 2022!

With the color changing month of November passing us by thats means a brand new Ongaku Go is upon us. We at OTY would like our readers to know what was filling our ears for the past month. Each track is available across all digital music streaming platforms with Apple Music featured on this site.

“Colorful Raindrop” by Mime

This past month was a rough one with catching Covid and dealing with the effects of that for the first half of November. But if there is nothing that did change it’s that how much Mime has been absolutely amazing and their latest single “Colorful Raindrop” is exactly what I needed. The overall composition is incredible as it’s not overbearingly complicated nor does it carry that simplistic style of melody that we are used to Mime having. Hakari’s vocals absolutely work and made me fall with it all over again. I can’t wait to see with Mime has for the next year as 2022 was just fantastic for them overall.

“JUST DANCE!” TRAVIS JAPAN

We had a debuting Johnny’s group, but more importantly we had a debuting Johnny’s group that made their debut digitally as well. While I do wish their more modern groups will make the transition internationally as well, I can really appreciate Travis Japan’s effort in this. As a debut it shows how much this group can succeed as this song is sung entirely in English. For a track that is titled “Just Dance”, they don’t fall into the traps that more modern groups are doing with their dance beats and actually makes it danceable for a normal person. I don’t what the future holds for Travis Japan, but I can’t wait.

“Subtitle” by OFFICAL HIGE DANDISM

In my mind this is their best song since “I Love” a couple years back. While we did have this stigma about OFFICAL HIGE for trying to clout chase “Pretenders” for the longest time, I think they are finally hitting their stride and producing some of the most interesting tracks that I heard, with hits like “Cry Baby’ and “Mixed Nuts” in the months prior “Subtitle” is the cherry on top of their latest resurgence. While I might not want to hear songs like “Subtitle” by OFFICAL HIGE being released all the time, when they do go back to them, it makes it feel like a gem that is waiting to be found. This is easily a track that will be in my top 5 of the year.

“AISHITA HARERUKANA” by Emi Noda

Now Emi Noda is a new artist that had exploded on to the scene. With the advent of Aimyon and such it is expected that this genre of the girl with the guitar will be touched upon time and time again. While I don’t like to mainly focus on that as a genre as being the main thing that drives the Japanese Music Industry as a whole, in moderations it’s fine. Originally sung by the amazing Keisuke Kuwata, Noda brings a frailness and more emotionally driven take to the piece that most others haven’t tried before. Her vocals were the first thing that really attracted me to this rendition which had led me to going back to it again and again throughout the month. I’m very excited to see how Emi makes her mark in the industry.

Be sure to check out the performance of the song below with it also here!

SOS by Okkaa

Okkaa is an artist that I had my eye on for a while and I know he’s not going to be an artist for everyone with his more artistic takes for composition. However, SOS is something I ended up really liking due to his more naturalistic view of sounds which I ended absolutely loving throughout. Okkaa’s vocals might not be the strongest, but he has that sense of being able to hook you into a song and makes the listener be able to continue listening. While I might be bringing up his achievements all too much, I honestly can’t wait to see how he’ll do in the next year.

Gray's Ongaku Go For September 2022

Picking up where Ken and Luna left off lets go over to top five songs I’ve been listening to this past month. All the songs posted here are available on Apple Music.

“Goes On” by Juag Kung Suk

“Goes On” is the second track on Suk’s latest release “Beautiful,” and is the best thing about this release. This number showcases Suk’s great vocal work, and I’ve been enjoying it ever since it dropped.

“Fever Fever” by lol

Man, it’s been so long since I’ve talked about lol and I got curious about what they’ve been up to this year, so I decided to look at their profile on Apple Music. I discovered that lol has released a few digital singles this year. Out of those, this one was my favorite. It’s a fun dance number that lol is known for, which, as a huge fan, I really enjoyed.

“Kiranatu” by Star Prince

I owe Ken for suggesting this great track to me. This is a fun, high-energy song that sweeps up the listener, and I can’t get this tune out of my head.

Check out “Kiranatu” here!

“Wings” by Koda Kumi

Koda Kumi is known for her dance numbers but “Wings” really shows off what she is capable of when she wants to do a vocal ballad and, she is absolutely brilliant in this. I was surprised when I checked this out but, man, I was glad that I did.

“Smile” by BUDDiis

This song has been a pure delight since I heard it earlier this month and has swiftly become one of my favorite releases for the year. The harmonization on display is done very well, and the melody has a great hook. Every time I hear this it puts a big smile on my face.

Luna's Ongaku Go For September 2022!

With the fall leaves coming upon us, a brand new Ongaku Go has arrived. We at OTY would like our readers to know what was filling our ears for the past month. Each track is available across all digital music streaming platforms with Apple Music featured on this site.

“I Just Wanna Say” by Mime

Mime is such a phenomenal artist and their latest track “I Just Wanna Say” is another showcase of that with its unique chill beats with HIKARI’s vocals bringing it all to life. The beats in “I Just Wanna Say” have this funky fresh feel that you can either relax and chill to or you can get up and dance too. The opening is what caught me immediately as the beat caught my ear right away. HIKARI’s voice sounds slightly deeper in this track, I don’t know if it’s the composition, but I love this type of sound from Mime. They always know how to bring a sexy new track.

Check out “I Just Wanna Say'“ here and the video below!

“Always You” by milet

I finally got around to listening to milet’s newest single “Always You” and it became an absolute hit. milet’s vocal’s are pleasant and strong as always; the lyrics are very cute and romantic, and it has a nice theatrical composition that fits with milet’s vocal style. “Always You” does feel like a typcial milet track but if you are a fan of her, you will enjoy it. The composition fits with her vocals, which are very smooth and doesn’t sound as deep as they usually do. “Always You” has been a nice uplifting track for me that has kept me going throughout a stressful month.

“Unleash!!!!!” by BAND-MAID

Lately, I’ve been on a alternative and metal kick, so obviously BAND-MAID was in my playlist. Their latest EP did not disappoint. “Unleash!!!!!” was released as a digital single last month as promotion of their upcoming release and it has been in my ears all month. I love the heaviness of the guitars and drums, SAIKI’s vocals are perfect, and the composition is just what I needed. “Unleash!!!!!!” may seem like it starts off rough for some, but it caught my ear immediately and going further into this track, I fell in love with it even more. This got me excited for their new EP which also uses the same title.

“TOKYO 4AM” by CHANMINA

I watched the premier of this music video and waited for the track to drop on iTunes and it is well worth it. “TOKYO 4AM” is such a fun song in so many ways, from the lyrics to the composition. CHANMINA relies more on her vocals than her rap and I always enjoy hearing her use them. This track feels more like a something you’d blast in your car or you’d karaoke to. I love the chorus as it gives the feel that CHANMINA has her all entourage singing with her in that part, you get that full feeling that this is a part you’d want to sing with all your friends. I love that this feels more like a chill R&B-pop track at first then when it hits the chorus, it picks up both musically and vocally, giving a more poppy track while the versus’ take that slower beat and vocals.

“Ano Emi (That smile)” feat. ano by AAAMYYY

I recently discovered AAAMYYY and ever since then I have been addicted to her muic. “Ano Emi” has a heavier sound to it and that is what initially pulled me into it. I’ve been listening to heavier music lately and “Ano Emi” displays this in its composition quite a bit plus mixed with AAAMYYY’s light vocals it makes for the perfect mixture. “Ano Emi” gives the feeling of alternative meets electronic style of music, which gives me that mystifying feeling. The way this track starts off, it sounds like AAAMYYY is going to drop a sick hip hop album, then the guitars hits heavy and you don’t know what type of song this will be now and I love that it takes you on a ride.

Ken's Ongaku Go For September 2022!

With the fall leaves coming upon us that also means a brand new Ongaku Go is also with us. We at OTY would like our readers to know what was filling our ears for the past month. Each track is available across all digital music streaming platforms with Apple Music featured on this site.

“about the future” by Tavito Nanao
Tavito Nanao is a bit of enigma for me as I had only listened to one track in his discography prior to his Long Voyage album release earlier in the month. While the album as a whole was a delight to go through, I pretty much reintroduce myself to Nanao’s style, “about the future” really had stood out to me. Either it’s the message that he is trying to convey in his lyrics or the very minimalistic style of composition that Nanao used for this track, it was an instant hit for me. While this is a very small slice of his discography overall, I really look forward into diving into all his tracks and falling in love all over again.

Be sure to check out the video below and the track here!

“Puzzle” feat Mukai Taichi by Rung Hyang

Honestly as soon as I saw the name of both Rung Hyang and Mukai Taichi in the artist list I knew that I was going to really like this release. Hyang’s collaborative work is always absolutely fantastic, and when you add the amazing vocal prowess of Taichi, there is no chance that I wouldn’t love this. Even if “Puzzle” is the only release done by the duo, I am glad to have been able to listen to it.

Be sure to check out the music video for “Puzzle” below along with the song here!

“Cypher” by Soulflex

Speaking of things to just jive with, Soulflex’s latest album Beat Tape overall is absolutely fantastic and I was impressed by the overall feel of the album. One of then things that had really stood out to me from the album was the pair of tracks “Cypher” and “Spinach” and while it’s located differently on the album track listing, it felt like it was meant to be back to back of each other. The former specifically really stood out to me due to the overall consistency of the song and had felt like the band was firing on all cylinders, even if there were no vocals throughout the song. While I’m not sure if this will be the last release of the year done be Soulflex, but it was a damn good one to end the year on.

Check out “Cypher” below along with the track here!

“Look Around” by YeYe

YeYe is always such an interesting project to go back to when she does release something, and the Hamidete! album is such proof of that. While it might not be the strongest song of the release, “Look Around” has its charm of wonderment that just oozes from it. Hashiguchi’s vocals just leave this haunting performance that lingers well after I had listened to it and had left such an impression on me that I haven’t felt since “Yure Yure” back in 2018. YeYe has really kept herself busy throughout the last couple years and I can’t wait to hear what she has cooked up next.

Be sure to check out “Look Around” here!

“Hitori no Yoru” by TOMORROW X TOGETHER

Yeah, I know I’m am just as surprised by this development as you, if you were to ask if I’d be picking a Korean artist’s track in my Ongaku Go in the beginning of the year I’d call you crazy but here we are. All jokes aside, “Hitori no Yoru” is absolutely amazing, and that is reliant on one thing and that is their vocals. I already know that TOMORROW X TOGETHER has some amazing vocals. If you just strip down the composition to a ballad like state and have the boys do their work, it will be a win all the time. Although I do know that this isn’t a common occurrence for them, I will take this as a small win of them winning me over.

Gray's Ongaku Go For August 2022

With another month down for 2022 these are some of my favorite tracks from the last month. Every song can be found on Apple Music.

“Baumkuchen” by Amatou Danshi

This song has been a delight since it dropped and I’ve had it on repeat ever since. I love the harmonization done by Amatou Danshi done in this song. The catchy tune and melody of this track are just a delight.

Check out “Baumkuchen” here.

“Beyond VANITAS” by Pipping Hot

This track has a fun energy about it that is a lot of fun. The girls of Pipping Hot just kill this track and I’ve had it on repeat ever since it dropped.

Check out “Beyond VANITAS” here and the music video below!

“SEE YOU” by BiSH

Once again as the clock winds down on this group they dropped an amazing track. As the saying goes “All good things must come to an end.” So BiSH has really decided to end on an amazing high note.

Check out “SEE YOU” here and the music video below!

“Chikaranokagiri” by GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE

GENERATIONS has really kept up the momentum since their album Up&Down. This was a really fun release.

Check out “Chikaranokagiri” here and the music video below!

“Way You Are” by Kouhei Matsushita

When this track charted earlier this month, I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with it as much as I have. What a head-turner of a song and I’ve been listening to this on repeat ever since.
